FZ

FZ is a commercial electrical contracting company with four locations in Michigan: Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Traverse City, and Detroit. Additionally, there are two other locations in the Southern United States. FZ has been in business for over thirty years and employs 200-500 people.

FZ In-House Apprenticeship Program

The FZ In-House Apprenticeship Program is an employee development effort which more specifically contours a standard apprenticeship program to meet the needs of FZ. 

Program Design

The apprenticeship program combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training and enables a more targeted approach to content as well as more control of scheduling and locations to facilitate employee participation. 

Key Components

  • Instructors are FZ journeymen and foremen who are compensated for their work
  • The curriculum for skilled trades training materials is NCCER approved
  • The program also includes the possibility of paid tuition for outside education based on passing criteria

Impact

The FZ In-House Apprenticeship Program currently has over 100 participants.
